"Tom!" Bill shifted the grocery bag to the arm that held his bag and closed the door behind him, slipping off his shoes. "Tom? I don’t know why you needed the real Spetzi and made me go all the way to the international store downtown. Couldn’t you just use orange soda and cola like everyone else?"

As Bill put the Spetzi in the fridge, he realized the house was silent.

"Tom?" He called out again, a little louder. When he got no answer, he grumbled under his breath about unappreciative brothers who wouldn’t be getting any loving from him tonight.

Then he noticed the hearts.

On the counter next to the refrigerator were tiny, candy hearts, laid out to form an arrow. Bill plucked up the heart at the tip of the arrow and squinted at the minuscule writing stamped into the sugar.

Will you?

Bill grinned and popped the candy in his mouth. Of course he would. He didn’t know what it was yet, but he definitely would.

Sliding the rest of the candies off the counter and into his palm, he followed the direction of the arrow to the bottom of the stairs. When he got there, he found another candy heart on the second step. This one was yellow.

Melt my heart

Bill cooed, added the candy to the stash in his hand, and started up the steps. Dead center of every third step lay a different colored heart.

My pet

Ever after

Fit for love

Bill gathered them all up and came to the top stair, where another arrow pointed down the hall. He tried to scoop up all the hearts, but he had too many for his hand to hold now. He chuckled at his predicament before pulling up the front of his shirt and carrying the hearts in the pouch it made.

His curiosity spurred him on, and well, he never did lose his sweet tooth over the years, so he followed the arrow down the hall. The little hearts dotted the floor, leaving a trail that lead him right to the door of the bathroom.

He raised an eyebrow, contemplating what reason Tom could possibly have for leading him to the bathroom. Bill paused for just a moment, before swinging the door open.

The lights were off, but candles of all shapes and sizes were placed throughout the bathroom...on the floor, on the vanity, around the back of the tub. White orchids and red roses stood in vases and lay on the counters and Bill breathed their scent while flower shadows danced by candlelight.

And in the center of all this beauty was the most beautiful man he knew.

Tom sat on the ledge of the tub in his bathrobe, his long, silvery-white hair flowing loose around his shoulders. His hands folded in his lap, he waited with a bashful smile.

"Tom." Bill breathed his name.

"C’mere." Tom stood and brought Bill to the tub, where they dumped the candies onto the ledge. As Bill stood there, transfixed by the sights and the smells surrounding him, Tom began to slowly undress him.

The jacket was slid off, the shirt slipped over his head and the jeans, unzipped and pooled around his ankles. With his clothing finally gone, Tom took a long, loving look at Bill. Age had barely touched his brother, merely turning his blonde hair as silver as his own, and making the laugh lines in his face just a little deeper. To Tom, he was still ethereal. He touched Bill’s cheek with his fingertips and kissed him sweetly on the lips.

"What is all this for?" Bill stroked his hands over Tom’s chest.

"For you." Tom took Bill’s hand and helped him into the tub, steadying him with both hands when Bill sank slowly into the steamy water covered in mounds of bubbles.

"Get in with me." Bill tugged on his brother’s hand.

Laughing, Tom tugged back and then kissed Bill’s fingertips.

"I was planning on it." Tom dropped his robe to the floor and stepped quickly into the tub, holding onto Bill’s hand to steady himself. It was funny how after all these years, all these decades they had been lovers, Tom still blushed when Bill looked at him with that look in his eyes.

As soon as Tom settled himself against the back of the tub, Bill turned himself around and onto Tom’s lap, snuggling back into his chest as Tom wrapped his arms around him.

Tom nuzzled his nose into the nape of Bill’s neck and kissed the spot under Bill’s ear, where the skin was always warm and a little musky and made Tom’s belly swirl.

Bill pulled away just far enough to rifle through the candies piled on the ledge. He shifted them around until he found the one he wanted, before leaning back on Tom and holding the candy out to his brother.

Tom held his hand out and let Bill drop the pink heart in the center of his palm.

Tom peered down at the little heart. It said:

Be Mine

The look in Tom's eyes made Bill's belly flutter.

"Always."

Bill snuggled into Tom’s arms, turning just enough to plant wet kisses on the side of Tom’s neck. As Tom’s hands began to explore wet skin and dry, Bill whispered softly in his ear, his warm, sweet breath tickling the fine hairs there and making Tom shiver in delight.

"I love you."
